CIRALI also known by its mythological name CHIMERA is an environmentally protected seaside village nestled in between majestic green mountains and the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean. It is located 70 miles west of the busy Mediterranean town Antalya, and reached by a windy and secluded path off the main Antalya-Kas highway.

The area is rich in history, mythology and natural beauty. Locals revere the environment and delight in planting organic farms, orchards and botanical gardens. Wild plants and pine forests abound and the 5 km long beach offers one of the most spectacular and exquisite swimming of the Turkish Mediterranean.The beach is also the nesting ground of the endangered loggerhead turtles (Caretta Caretta). The pregnant Caretta can be witnessed under the supervision of environmentalist youth, from April through June, laying her eggs, then burying them into the deep sand, before disappearing into the darkness of the sea....a very special experience not to be missed!


Right at Cirali, one can hike on the Lycian Way, a newly refurbished 500 km long ancient walking path that connects antique Lycian sites to one another.

  
One of the legendary sites of Olympos dating from at least 200 BC lies within walking distance down the shore and through a small canyon filled with olive trees and a small brook.

Another fascinating feature of this area is the site of the Eternal Flame, where methane gas seeps up through tiny fissures in the rocks and burns upon reaching the surface. These fires have been burning non-stop for 5,000 years! According to legend, they still come from Chimeara, the mythological dragon slain by Bellarophone and his winged horse Pegasus, right on this spot.... A hike up the mountain on a moonlit night is magical and awe-inspiring. Fires dot the landscape, lighting up the forest and surrounding ruins.


The people of Cirali carry the mission of environmental protection. Many have been trained by volunteers of WWF and other groups to protect the Caretta Carettas, to grow organic food and to recycle. This is an ideal location for travelers looking for a peaceful and relaxing vacation in a rare environmentally conscious, holistic minded and nature-respecting community on this part of the world..


TOHUM conducts ECO-HOLIDAYS AND HOLISTIC WORKSHOPS in this area at accommodations offered by selected families and family pensions during the off season when the area is private and peaceful.

The daily programs are designed to offer free time to unwind on the beach, or take a hike around the area. Boat cruises to nearby pristine coves and sightseeing tours to nearby ancient sites and traditional villages can be organized on demand.
