This holiday is an active guided trekking holiday on Turkey's first long-distance walking route Travel in Turkey by foot and on mules the way the ancients did.
Kate Clow is a remarkable British woman who lives in Turkey. She has achieved a monumental task in organizing the research and the way-marking of a 400 km ancient path covering most of the rugged coastal territory of Ancient Lycia, a Matriarchal Mediterranean Kingdom.
The full trip is described in Kate's Guidebook The Lycian Way, voted into the "10 Best Walks in the World" by the British Sunday Times. The landscapes of the Turkish Mediterranean offer spectacular mountains overlooking mysteriously secluded coves, pristine sandy beaches with sparkling turquoise waters, inviting islands and a magnificent sunken city. This is a 10-day easy to medium trek through the Beydaglar National Park on the Lycian Way, Turkey's first long distance walking route. It includes highlights of the latter part of the route and is suitable for families with teenage children. At no time do you have to carry backpacks - we transport you to the start of each walk and between pensions with our minibus. We also include boat trips, swimming and horse riding opportunities. The Beydaglar National Park is home to magnificent forests of cedar and pine on the final spur of the Taurus mountain chain, and for centuries has been a link between the upland pastures and the villages of the coast. The trek allows you to glimpse a way of life of the inhabitants of the quaint old stone and timber villages on the route. The trip includes visits to two major Greek/Roman cities and one spectacular, unvisited site. It mainly follows village tracks and migration routes in use since Roman times in this spectacular area of forests, canyons and peaks. CREW The trip will be led by Kate Clow and/or Terry Richardson, who together researched way-marked and published two 500 km walking routes in southern Turkey.
